A new month is here and that means a new licensed and original movies and shows arriving on Netflix, which helps take the sting out of saying farewell to many other movies. Below, see the full list of titles hitting Netflix starting on the 1st of August, but first let’s check out the highlights.
In the thriller genre, Netflix originals Beckett (starring John David Washington) and Sweet Girl (starring Jason Momoa) premiere. For those looking for something more light-hearted, try The Chair, a new dramedy written by Amanda Peet and produced by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss that stars Sandra Oh as a single mother newly installed as the head of a college English department. Also: Paris Hilton’s now has her own cooking show, and 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights hit the platform, as do the movie classics Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Magnolia, and The Net. Happy streaming.
Vivo (2021)
All you need for a good musical is the music of Lin-Manuel Miranda. After Hamilton, Moana and In the Heights, the musical genius can now be heard in the film Vivo. In this colorful animation film, the monkey Vivo has to travel from Cuba to America to deliver an important message. He is helped by the energetic teenager Gabi.
The Kissing Booth 3 (2021)
The second part of this teen trilogy ended with a difficult choice for Elle: will she follow boyfriend Noah to Harvard or go to Berkeley with her best friend Lee? The choice becomes even more difficult when Elle bumps into handsome Marco again and he tries to win her over again.
Sweet Girl (2021)
Jason Momoa shows his acting skills and muscles in this thriller. He plays a father who has to watch his seriously ill wife die because her life-saving medicines are no longer made. The broken man decides to take revenge and goes after the responsible pharmaceutical company, but this struggle puts his relationship with his daughter in grave danger.
Beckett (2021)
American tourist Beckett, played by John David Washington, is on holiday in Greece with his girlfriend April. After a tragic car accident, he wakes up in the hospital and tells the police what happened. He shouldn’t have done that, because from that moment on he is being hunted by the agents. Why do they want to silence him?
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf (2021)
The second season of The Witcher will be released in December and will introduce Geralt’s mentor Vesemir. In the anime film Nightmare of the Wolf we are introduced to a young version of this legendary Witcher. Like Geralt, he takes on the most diverse monsters and demons.
He’s All That (2021)
In teen comedy She’s All That, the nerdy Laney got a makeover as the prettiest girl in school and all she had to do was take off her glasses. He’s All That is a remake of this 90’s hit, but this time a nerdy boy is transformed into a handsome hunk. Since the lead role is played by Tanner Buchanan from Cobra Kai, this will be a very easy makeover.
